Wiggle Bottoms

Wiggle bottom sketch dump.

Thought I’d give you all an update on the webcomic. I’ve been working away on it. I have four comics written and rough thumbnails drawn for them. I’ve started drawing one of them, but I haven’t even finished my character developing sketches yet. That proved to be a problem, so I had to stop working on the comic and go back to the character developing. I guess I’m trying to run before I walk....or crawl, really.

It’s been an interesting journey. I want to try and get a comic up by July, but I’m trying to not pressure myself about it. I’m a very busy lady, what with working full time as the senior graphic designer at my day job, running this blog as my side hustle, dealing with the children’s book release stuff, trying to teach myself about podcasting, getting ready to move, delving into the world of eating better with Mr. LL (which means a lot more cooking at home and meal prep and grocery store running, not to mention budgeting/couponing) and taking care of the menagerie at home (two cats, a mischevious puppy and a baby turtle). Just typing all that made me panic, just a little bit.

GetTheWorkDone

But it’s not like I don’t get time to relax. Mr. LL and I watch one TV show episode as we eat dinner together, and we make time to see friends and family whenever we are able. This past Saturday, I went shopping by myself and bought probably too many pairs of shoes. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I have an overall mindset of “it’s going to get done when it gets done” and don’t hold myself to deadlines that are arbitrary. It keeps me sane – so does Mr. LL.

That’s not to say that I don’t have freak outs. I do. Mostly little, private ones right when I’m trying to fall asleep. Sometimes I just start cleaning the apartment or making lists because I feel like if I can’t do what needs to be done, for whatever reason, then I might as well do something else because I will just sit and fret.

I’ll be posting less rambling updates on the webcomic in the future.

Make something you find beautiful

This month's #YEAROFHAPPY task was to make something you find beautiful. April has been a busy month, and when I sat down to think about what I wanted to make, so much what I could make that I would find beautiful seemed so daunting and overwhelming for a novice-crafter as myself. The whole point of these monthly exercises is to bring happiness to your life, not more stress.

Then, I just stopped myself and asked "Why does it have to be a craft? You make beautiful graphics. Make something that will make you happy with graphic design." So what I made may not be a traditionally beautiful creation, but it's beautiful to me for a few reasons.

WBMcGhee Branding

I created the branding and color pallete for The Misadventures of W.B. McGhee. You may be asking "how is that beautiful?" Well, here are my reasons:

  1. This entire project is very important to me. Writing and illustration something that is completely mine in every stage is a huge undertaking. Creating this is just one part of the much larger process.
  2. I love graphic design. I have since I was in high school. I love it and I am damn good at it. Using my talents makes me happy, and when I'm working on a project I have strong, positive feelings for leaves me with a sense of pride and a vision of its beauty.

I'm not completely set on this palette, but this is the direction I'm thinking about going. It's a good starting point.

I'm excited to see all the other #YEAROFHAPPY creations this month!

WhatsGoingOn-LazyLady

I haven't been doing my weekend blogging. I have photos for my Project 365, I just haven't been able to bring myself to sit on a computer these past couple of weekends. It's really nice to have some down, unplugged time (even though I'm still plugged in some, watching Parks & Rec on Netflix). My friend Mallory, from Miss Malaprop, suggested that I might be over-stretching myself by posting 7 days a week; that I need to focus more on quality instead of quantity. When I re-booted Lazy Lady, my plan was to give all the myriad of post ideas I wanted to do a try for six months, weeding them out as I went. Three months in and I think it's time to do some major surgery. The problem is, I love a lot of what I post.

I cut the "Goal Getter" series, and as soon as I did, I got comments, messages, and emails from readers telling me how much they enjoy it! As I thought about it, trying to decide if cutting it was the right decision and if I should bring it back, I realized that "Goal Getter" is one of the most don't-be-lazy series I have on the blog, lol. It NEEDS to be on here. So, I will be working it back into the line-up...eventually. I just need to work on my schedule some more. It will probably be back in May.

I also cut back my Books, Booze & Bajingos posts. I really would love to make our monthly meet-ups into a podcast, but I don't know if the ladies are as interested in that idea as I am. So I just have the monthly pick going up. I honestly just get too tipsy or tired to write up the recap of our meet-up each month right after the fact. Writing it next day is hard because then the details are fuzzy.

I love my bookclub, and I want to share it with all of you and have you join us on the GoodReads community and help it grow! The forums are pretty quiet right now (as in it's just me >.>) but I'd love to have it flourish with new people joining in and starting new discussions. Please go check it out and let me know if you are reading along with us!

Sneak peek at a W.B. McGhee sketch!

I've been working on W.B. McGhee and I am super excited about this project! This is my first time writing my own comic and it's hard! I've only ever done journal comics...as long as you don't count some horrible comics I did in junior high/high school, lol. I've been diving into the depths of character development and having fun flushing out the fictional lives I'm giving to my pets. Also, anytime something happens with Bigby, Mr. LL and/or I go "that will make a fun/great story for Wiggle Bottoms!" I need to start writing them down. I really don't have a set time-line for when the first W.B. McGhee comic will go up and I've given myself the goal of just getting it up this year. I'll be giving you all updates and sneak peeks along the way!

Do you have a favorite series on the blog? If so, leave a comment and let me know what you like/love. I love to read each and every comment, and I try to do my best to reply back to you all! I hope you have a great week!

My April ad sale is still going on. If you would like to help Lazy Lady and support this crazy project, I hope you will consider becoming a sponsor! I'd greatly appreciate it!
